Investment scams: examine the intermediary and the withdrawal terms

Fake trading dashboards and persuasive advisers can create the illusion of profit while encouraging repeated payments.

Investment scams: examine the intermediary and the withdrawal terms

How trust is built through staged results

The approach may start with an online advertisement, social-network contact or a supposed financial specialist. A professionally designed platform then displays gains that the customer cannot independently verify.

An offender can copy real company names and misuse authorisation details. Check the specific provider and its contact information against the appropriate official registers.

Why displayed balances may be fictitious

A screen showing account growth is not proof that assets exist or are available to withdraw. Demands for extra fees to release funds are a major warning sign.

Promises of guaranteed high returns are not supported simply by testimonials or screenshots. Understand the risk and the role of the intermediary.

Practical checks

  • Check licensing details in official registers
  • Question guaranteed returns
  • Refuse advance fees for withdrawals
  • Preserve payment and communication records

Use authoritative records before committing funds

If concerns arise, stop further transfers and speak to your bank and an appropriately authorised adviser.

Alain Stevens’s history of investigating online information since 1999 reinforces the need to compare promotional claims against independent records.
